Betting in Ethiopia with Telebirr

If you still look up betting sites in Ethiopia in 2026, you are not looking at a rebuilt local market. On 15 December 2025 (Tahsass 06, 2018 E.C.) the Ethiopian Lottery Service revoked every sports-betting licence it had issued. Online books, agents, and physical shops were named in the same notice. New bets were to stop. Money deposit gateways were to stop. Banks, payment-instrument issuers, and payment-system operators were told to block or suspend financial movement for betting organisations.

That is the ground under every card on this site. An offshore cashier can still print Telebirr, CBE Birr, or M-Pesa. That print is not an ELS sports-betting licence. A wallet product is not a licence. A Curacao paper is not a licence. If Ethio Telecom or a bank refuses the merchant, there is no second set of steps on this site. Stop.

What happened to licensed betting after 15 Dec 2025

The public record for the wipe sits in two places we can link. Addis Insight reported the revocation the same day. iGaming Afrika published the ELS notice text (source line: Ethiopian Lottery Service).

The notice is a class revocation, not a fine on one shop. It covers sports betting online, through agents, in physical premises, and in any other manner. It tells betting houses to stop taking new wagers. It tells money-deposit gateways to cease. It tells banks and payment firms to interrupt the cash pipes.

After that date, a page that still says "licensed in Ethiopia" needs a date and a named regulator. Telebet's footer still shows an old National Lottery Administration line (ስ/ው/ብሎ/29/2016). That is not a live ELS sports-betting licence. We do not treat it as one. The longer legal write-up is the ELS betting licence ban article. This page stays with the practical question: which cashiers still name Ethiopian rails in public, and which names we refuse to fill in.

Dash Bet, Chatki, Axum, and Ethio Bet show up when people type brand names. Those queries are navigational. They are not proof of a cashier. Ahadu Birr, Vamos, and HuluSport sit on third-party listicles. They are not in our live grid.

How this list is built

We do not publish forty logos because forty blogs repeat forty logos. A live row needs a cashier we checked, with methods and a min we can print, or a public page we can link:

• a public Ethiopia payment guide on the operator's own domain, or
• public HTML on the operator's own domain that names Telebirr, CBE Birr / CBEBirr, or M-Pesa, or
• a cashier we opened and dated. Glory has no public Ethiopia deposit guide we can link, so that row is dated 26 August 2026 like the rest of the grid.

If we cannot show methods, the row stays off this grid. We do not guess a rail or a minimum. We do not write Telebirr just to fill an empty cell.

We also keep an empty slot for a licensed local sportsbook on purpose. There is no licensed local sportsbook to put there. Telebirr vs CBE Birr vs M-Pesa after the ban

Three rails appear on the live cashiers. They are not three licences.

Telebirr is Ethio Telecom's mobile-money product. After the ban it is still a wallet. It can still refuse a betting merchant. The dedicated walk-through is betting in Ethiopia with Telebirr. Do not treat that page as a bypass manual. There isn't one.

CBE Birr is a wallet rail. Commercial Bank of Ethiopia as a bank transfer is a different line on Megapari's Ethiopia guide. Wallet floors and bank floors are not the same number. Mixing them is how comparison tables start lying. The split lives on CBE Birr betting.

M-Pesa is the third rail on Glory's cashier (as of 26 August 2026) and on Megapari's payment-methods page. Telebet's HTML spells it `Mpesa`. Same idea: a pipe, not a licence.

Brands we do not pretend are licensed, and names we do not fill

Two different refusals.

First, local brand searches: Dash Bet, Chatki, Axum, Ethio Bet. People type those names. They are not live cashiers on this grid. We do not promote them as "Ethiopian betting sites" with a visit button.

Second, these well-known offshore names also list Telebirr, CBE Birr and M-Pesa on the cards, checked 26 August 2026. They are still offshore. They are not ELS. Check the min on the card, then the screen in front of you:

If the wallet blocks the payment

A blocked Telebirr push, a blocked CBE Birr debit, or a blocked M-Pesa debit is a stop sign. This page does not describe agent numbers, split payments, third-party wallets, or "try this bank instead" as a workaround. Banks and payment operators were told to interrupt betting money. If your rail follows that instruction, we have nothing else to teach.

What "ethiopian betting sites" usually gets wrong

Wide phrases like ethiopian betting, ethiopia betting, and online betting ethiopia still pull up dead shop paint, crash-game names, and forty-logo roundups. Those pages often treat a brand you can type as a cashier you can open. They also glue lottery Telebirr to sports. This site does the opposite.

A live ethiopian betting site, on our rule, is a cashier with Ethiopian rails we can cite. It is not a Facebook page for a closed kiosk. It is not a YouTube thumbnail that says "best betting ethiopia" while pointing at an app name that is not on this cashier grid. BetWinner and Paripesa print 50. Linebet 20 to 50. 1xBet, 888Starz and Mostbet print 100. Telebet does not print a floor.
